POETIC LICENSE

5-day workshop with Maria Militsi

April, 4 – 8 2019

Duration: 28 hours

“How are we to speak of common things. How to track them down rather, flash them out, wrest them from the dross in which they remain mired how to give them a meaning, a tongue, to let them finally speak of what is, of what we are.” Georges Perec

Are objects passive? What if objects can help us bridge the gap between ourselves and the world around us? What is the identity of objects and how are they contextualized by other objects? How to restore dignity to what already exists? Take a familiar object and defamiliarize it.

Through this process, you learn how much of what we take to be the real world is a result of conventions, language or social processes. Gain confidence in the process. Celebrate faults in things. Do the obvious. Settle into associations. Daydream. Act without watching yourself. Make yourself a stranger in your own city, an accidental tourist and create your own collection of souvenirs by amassing urban refuse. Become an amateur detective and investigator of the fleeting, ephemeral experience of life in an urban Metropolis.

A five-day workshop to explore the ongoing relationship between things and people.

Workshop duration: 28 hours / April, 4-8 2019

Schedule: Thursday 11:00-14:00 // A guided tour to the National Archaeological Museum and ancient sites Friday 11:00-15:00 Saturday- Monday 11:00-14:00 & 15:00-19:00
