Online Lecture by Akis Goumas
Thursday, May 6 2021, 19.00-20.30
Akis Goumas – jewelry designer & manufacturer and instructor in ANAMMA Studio – will present his work, following the scholarship he got by the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece by Harvard University, within the framework of the programme “Visiting Artist 2021-2022”.
The topic of the scholarship is the influence, on him personally and his work, of the studies he is conducting along with archaeologists on ancient techniques for the treatment of gold, as well as of the Greek civilization in general.
Since 2006, he has been part of a group of archaeologists from the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and the Heidelberg University, studying ancient metalworking techniques and stone micro sculpting in the wider area of the Aegean Sea. Moreover, over the past couple of years, he has been studying, on behalf of the Benaki Museum, goldsmithing techniques of the Hellenistic period.
“It is a journey of unique experiences, collaborations, thoughts, experimentations and tasks that have left their mark on me and are depicted and expressed through my work.”
The online lecture will be realized via ZOOM.
