From the pin to the bracelet — the evolution of a wire
Long ago, prehistoric humans found a stone that fit comfortably in their hand and used it to crack nuts or shape wood into tools. Over time, they learned to handle it skillfully, without realizing its deeper significance. Later, the hand axe acquired a wooden handle, and during the Bronze Age, it evolved into what we now recognize as the hammer. All craftsmen had their own tool, tailored to their hand and work. With it, they shaped copper into sheets or wires, creating weapons, utensils, and jewelry — and, thus, the art of forging was born.
In this two-day seminar, we will adapt our hammers according to each participant’s body and rhythm, discovering how, through forging, we can give form and volume to our metals — and how every strike and repetition brings the metal to life.
Starting from a 2-3 mm wire, we will first create a pin, one of the most widespread ornaments of antiquity. Then, the pin will evolve into a double one – similar to today’s safety pin – and finally, it will “magically” transform into a bracelet.
A creative journey that reveals the evolution of a simple wire and the power of forging as a fundamental method of shaping metals.
