FUSION
3 day workshop with Nicole Polentas & Christopher Earl Milbourne
7-9th March 2014
Duration: 15 hours
The notion of fusion denotes the combination or blending of two or more elements. It can also be the start of a journey, whereby the synthesis of processes, materials and ideas provide pathways for the creation of new and innovative objects.
During the three-day workshop participants will build knowledge and explore the parameters of fusion both as a topic and as a technique, which will result in the culmination of a finished jewellery object. There will also be the opportunity for discussions and investigations into personal methodologies around the aesthetics of fusion in relation to contemporary jewellery practices. Participants can also consider the ways in which fusion can be explored through various methods, techniques and materials, for instance, a fusion of metal, plastic, glass and ephemera/ collected material.
The concept of fusion is open, participants can choose to investigate it through various methods, techniques, materials and contexts. The outcome is to produce a jewellery object, which explores the ideas and processes of fusion, incorporating personal indoctrinations and ultimately manifested as an original artwork.
Peer-oriented discussions and a group critique of finished objects will contribute to the completion of the fusion process and further assist in examining how we read the object. The workshop will also provide the possibility to examine methods of display and documentation through multi-disciplinary approaches.
