5-day seminar with Akis Goumas
November, 27-28-29 & December, 5-6 2015
Duration: 20 hours
The intention to imitate nature is what probably led the Mycenaean goldsmith to create a series of gold jewelry with anticlastic surfaces. Thirty three centuries later, a great Finnish master metalsmith, Heikki Seppa, will name this technique “Anticlastic Metal Forming” and will develop it both theoretically and practically in comparison to the conventional “Synclastic Metal Forming” technique.
In this seminar, we will explore the relation among the artist’s need for expression, the thinking on the design of the tool that will help in the implementation and the final shaping of the idea on metal.
*An anticlastic surface is one with opposite curvatures at any given point.
