Duration: 15 hours

Contemporary jewelry: portfolio/ communication/ funding/ success. A holistic approach on jewelry and the parameters that can influence an artist’s success; from the idea to the right exhibition space to funding.

This seminar deals with the latest in the specifications, communication and presentation of contemporary jewelry within the international market. It analyzes the role of modern art over the past 150 years in the comprehension of the “language” of contemporary jewelry, while, through specific examples, it explains all about the idea, concept, message and framework of a piece or range of jewelry.

The workshop combines theory with real-life examples and professional exercises in a fast pace. The participants will learn the fundamental principles of communication that will serve for the promotion of their work and the improvement of their concept. At the same time, they will get exposed to the learning, working and performance environment of several colleagues abroad (U.S.A., Germany, Holland etc.): intense, focused, fast, analytical, cumulative and “out of the box” thinking and making.

The course also explains all the steps that an artist should follow – from the original idea to implementation and portfolio presentation – in order for his/her work to make an impact.

At the same time, it clarifies the misconceptions prevailing in the Greek market regarding career building and the promotion, evaluation criteria and pricing of work, while it also analyzes the savoir-vivre of communication between contemporary jewelry creators and foreign/Greek bodies and clients.

It refers to the standards of the chain of production and trading within the global market, while it outlines the requirements (knowledge, ethics, way of dealing, representation etc.) that the artists should expect from mediators, sellers, gallery owners and other representatives of their work in order to achieve their goals.

Finally, it describes the multiple applications of jewelry and design within the framework of the new consumer practices and it elaborates on the prerequisites necessary to attract funding for the promotion of the art work (i.e. sponsorships, scholarships, residencies, support networks etc.)

The 2-day seminar with Loukia Richards was completed with great success. It was a holistic approach on jewelry and the parameters that can influence an artist’s success; from the idea to the right exhibition space to funding.

The seminar – a “marathon sprint”, as Loukia named it – was full of knowledge, information on the art market of the Western world, ideas, discussions, queries, questioning, expression, discoveries, inspiration and mostly awakening!

Many thanks to all the participants and to Loukia for sharing with us her endless knowledge and energy!
