1-day workshop on Gemology

A one-day introductory workshop on Gemology that will give us the chance to explore the world of diamonds. Diamond, adamas, adamant; the absolute precious stone that represents love, devotion, firmness and dazzling beauty will be the focus of this workshop, which aspires to initiate us into the charming world of this mysterious precious stone. The workshop includes a theoretical part, during which we will talk about the history of diamonds, their technical characteristics – 4Cs: colour, clarity, carat weight, cut – and their processing, as well as about the synthetic diamonds and some myths and truths regarding the “blood diamonds”. The workshop will be concluded with a part of practice, where we will have the chance to work on jewelry with diamonds using special tools in order to identify their technical characteristics.

George Spyromilios, the founder of IGLcert, is an expert Gemologist – Diamontologist and Appraiser. In Greece, he is regarded as an expert in the valuation and certification of diamonds and gemstones. His gemological studies began in Athens and continued in Antwerp, Canada, and the United States.
Since 2024 Mr. Spyromilios, serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Athens Jewellery Association and Head of Education of the Hellenic Federation of Silversmiths, Goldsmiths, Jewelers and Watch Retailers (POVAKO).
IGLcert belongs to the official worldwide International Consortium of Gem-Testing Laboratories (ICGL). IGLcert is also a member of the Association of Independent Jewellery Valuers (AIJV), based in Scotland, the National Association of Jewellery Appraisers (NAJA), and the Jewellery Valuers Association UK (JVA). In addition, we are the only Greek member of the Jewellery Appraisers of the World (JAW).
