ONLINE 3D Modeling: Jewelry Design

An introduction and guided exploration of 3D jewelry design using a computer and the Rhinoceros software, one of the most popular programs for 3D modeling. This course aims at introducing participants to two-dimensional and three-dimensional digital design, with the ultimate goal of producing wax models through 3D printing and utilizing them in jewelry making.

The course is delivered by sculptor and jewelry designer Aliki Stroumbouli, who guides participants through a series of hands-on lessons, starting from the fundamental principles of 3D modeling to get to the creation of complete jewelry pieces. The course combines technical knowledge, methodology and the development of geometric thinking, with the emphasis on the design process.

The program is divided into two cycles of study: Beginner and Advanced.

The course is addressed both to hobbyists who wish to incorporate new digital tools into their creative practice and to jewelry professionals seeking to acquire a powerful and contemporary design tool.

All participants are required to have a laptop, a mouse and the Rhinoceros program installed, as well as strong commitment to practice beyond class hours, based on the exercises and instructional videos provided.

Course duration: 27,5 hours | Beginners group: October, 15th – January, 7th 2027
                                                         Advanced group: January, 28th – April, 15th 2027

a’ cycle – Beginner Level

27,5 hours / October, 15 – January, 7 2027

The first cycle offers a structured introduction to two-dimensional and three-dimensional digital jewelry design using Rhinoceros. It is addressed to beginners with no prior experience in 3D modeling, as well as to handmade jewelry creators who wish to build solid foundations in digital design.

Participants become familiar with the interface and logic of the software and learn how to “translate” simple ideas and forms into clear, structured digital models, understanding the relationship between line, surface and volume. Special emphasis is placed on design methodology and the gradual development of geometric thinking.

It includes:

  • Introduction to the Rhinoceros interface and workflow
  • Two-dimensional (2D) design and creation-editing of curves (Curves); basic design principles
  • Surface design (Surfaces) and understanding of their structure
  • Understanding of the relationship between 2D drawing and 3D form
  • Three-dimensional (3D) design and creation of basic volumes (Solids)
  • Basic principles of photorealistic material rendering (Render)
  • Placement of sprues on digital models
  • Basic information on the casting process
  • Weight calculation and indicative cost estimation of jewelry pieces

Day & Time:  Thursday, 18:00-20:30
Number of participants: from 3 to 6 individuals
Participation fee: 350€ + VAT 24%

b’ cycle – Advanced Level

27,5 hours / January, 28 – April, 15 2027

The second cycle is addressed to those who have completed the first cycle or are already familiar with the basics of Rhinoceros.

It focuses on an in-depth approach to 3D jewelry design and on the transition from observation to conscious digital construction. Participants are trained to observe, analyze and interpret three-dimensional forms, understanding their structure, proportions and logic, in order to “translate” them into functional and aesthetically complete digital models.

Particular emphasis is placed on form, proportional relationships and an introduction to jewelry aesthetics through the connection between form, material and use.

It includes:

  • Design of complex three-dimensional jewelry pieces
  • Analysis of volumes, proportions and geometric structure of 3D forms
  • Methodology for approaching a form: from observation to digital construction
  • Introduction to jewelry aesthetics and design logic
  • Jewelry with gemstones: design and integration of stones into the model, stone settings and mounting techniques
  • Introduction to the design of organic, freer and more sculptural forms

Day & Time:  Thursday, 18:00-20:30
Number of participants: from 3 to 6 individuals
